Film Animation September/October 2011 News

 
1) ANIMATION STUDENTS:

Student Yoshino Aoki's film "Door" screened in the student competition
at the Montreal World Film Festival.

Congratulations to recent graduate Samantha Leriche-Gionet, whose film
"Flocons et Carottes" screened at multiple festivals worldwide this
summer, including SICAF (Korea), Anima Mundi (Brazil), Fantasia
(Montreal), Martha's Vinyard (USA), and won the Hermína Týrlová Award for
Young Artist at the Zlin Film Festival in Czech Republic.

Congratulations to Animation alumnus Paul Tom, whose graduation film Que
je vive en paix is in competition in Germany at the 27th Berlin
International Short Film Festival, and the 24es Instants Vidéo Festival
(Festival international de la création vidéo et poétique) in Marseille,
France.

2) SHIRA AVNI:

Professor Shira Avni was a jury member at the Fantoche International
Animation Festival in Baden, Switzerland. She also presented a paper on
"Animation and the Disabled Body" at the festival, as well as at Gimme
Some Truth: The Winnipeg Documentary Project Conference.

3) LUC OTTER:

Film Animation Program welcomes new instructor Luc Otter, prolific and
highly lauded animation film maker.

Luc Otter's film ROSE & VIOLET at the Atlantic film festival/Viewfinder,
got "Best animated film (April 2011)"

Upcoming festivals for  ROSE & VIOLET :

August : Changzhou, China, International Animation and Digital Arts
Festival (CICDAF 2011)

September : Namur, Belgium (FIFF)

October : Official competition at 56th Valladolid International Film Fetival

4) LUIGI NEWS:

Luigi Allemano was mentoring director and sound designer for the NFB
Animation Hothouse 7 this past June 2011.

NFB film Dimanche won top prize at Odense International Short Film
Festival; music and sound design by Luigi.

The recent Understanding Visual Music Conference 2011 (Hexagram
Concordia), co-organized by Luigi in collaboration with Profs Dal Fara and
Tsabary from Music Dept., was a big success thanks to many excellent student
volunteers from Animation.

With PT faculty Luc Chamberland, Luigi was special guest at the Conseil
Québecois de la Musique 2011 Atelier 'Composer pour le cinéma et la
télévision' where their recent film collaboration Saga Cité was used as
the subject of analysis by young film composers.

POP Montreal workshop on music supervision for broadcast, featuring top
music supervisors from Los Angeles, will be hosted by Luigi on Sept 23rd.

5) OTTAWA ANIMATION FESTIVAL

Several films at Ottawa feature soundtracks by instructor Luigi Allemano:
Dimanche, Blind Evolution, Marvin Parson's Inner Wild Wilderness'.

Student films in Canadian Showcase at Ottawa International Animation
Festival 2011: Marjorie Lemay's 'Auscultation of the Heart' and Agathe
Bray-Bourret's 'La plage'.

Marjorie Lemay's 1st year film 'Noctourne' is in competition at the Split
International Film Festival, Croatia.

Concordia alumni Malcolm Sutherland has two animation films at Ottawa 2011.
